About the Role

Oversee, execute, and manage our Energy and Sustainability Programs through direct diverse energy-focused continuous improvement and capital endeavors while tracking and communicating savings at Bowling Green Metalforming. Responsible for supervising project expenses and ensuring timely delivery of project objectives. This role demands a proactive mindset and a proven dedication to ongoing enhancements.

**The Sustainability and Energy Manager Will:**

  • Report to the highest level GM or AGM, or similar position at the division
  • Lead a cross-functional team to handle all energy-related activities in a division
  • Adhere to the Magna Net Zero Carbon Playbook
  • Be the contact person for energy-relevant topics across the division
  • Create transparency with regard to energy and sustainability goals
  • Review energy-related performance indicators (KPI) within the division
  • Champion Mafact 6-10 Energy reduction aspects within the organization

Your Responsibilities

**Energy Management and Sustainability:**

  • Determine savings opportunities
  • Carry out profitability calculations for energy-saving projects
  • Continuously improve energy efficiency and reduce energy demand through technical or organizational measures
  • Use renewable energy sources if possible
  • Determine and utilize all possible fundings and reduction potentials
  • Initiate awareness-raising activities, training demonstrations for the staff
  • Take responsibility for Energy Compliance at the division according to current legislation in energy law
  • Take responsibility for education regarding energy management
  • Create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize unnecessary consumption
  • Manage various energy-related continuous improvement and capital projects

**Energy Monitoring and Cost Planning:**

  • Determine and record operational energy consumption and energy costs (natural gas, electricity, heat, compressed air, water, welding gas, etc.)
  • Prepare consumption data for controlling for budget compilation and cost planning
  • Perform energy and media cost planning
  • Implement energy-related cost-saving measures with the support of developers
  • Work with BGM Maintenance Facility and Environmental teams to develop and implement these measures
  • Prepare RFQ for all new projects
  • Support budget creation, manage energy budget spending, project energy savings, and identify the goals for each project

**Mafact Energy Reduction:**

  • Conduct Monthly Energy Team Meetings,
  • HSELinx Metrix entries of energy data and Sustainability projects (former energy projects),
  • Monthly update of HSELinx Global Energy Project Tracker
  • Monthly update Mafact Energy Board
  • Organize Energy Walks and Treasure Hunts
  • Take responsibility to reach Mafact 6-10 target score
  • Prepare analytical reports and read-outs summarizing energy usage and savings through Magna's Energy Portals
  • Support Lean Manufacturing requirements and audits as defined by Management team

**Benchmarking:**

  • Benchmark new/existing energy efficiency measures at other Magna plants or suppliers
  • Examine innovative technologies/processes that sustainably promote the areas of the division in terms of energy demand
  • Stay in contact with other Energy Champions of Magna as well as with your Regional/Global Energy Lead
  • Follow and comply with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook

Who we are looking for

**Education/Experience:**

  • Degree in Energy Sustainability Management and/or a minimum of 3 years of related experience required in energy project management or industrial facilities management
  • Experience analyzing energy operational data such as electricity, gas, water, and able to draw conclusions leading to improvement opportunities is required
  • Proven ability to complete a wide array of energy projects
  • Previous experience in manufacturing and plant automation is preferred
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing facility is preferred
  • Experience with process improvement and process equipment such as Compressors, Chillers, MUAs, Flow meters, and Commercial/Industrial Building HVAC systems is preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical systems is preferred

  • Good organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Appropriate presentation skills for customer interface
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality
  • Educating the team on energy reduction and sustainability
  • Ensuring energy reduction success
