Senior Engineer System Resiliency and Reliability

Eversource's Resilience and Reliability group focuses on implementing a data-driven strategy to invest in strengthening the electric transmission and distribution grid to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This approach also enables a modern digital and decarbonized grid.
The Senior Engineer in this role will deal with the complex challenges faced by today's power systems. Issues such as the looming impacts of climate change, rapid electrification, and the penetration of renewable energy resources necessitate a significant shift in utility planning, budgeting, and operations. Resilience and reliability are critical aspects of grid modernization and decarbonization.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in distribution system modeling, a good understanding of resilience and reliability, and an interest in shaping Eversource's long-term strategies through a data and model-driven approach. This individual will design specific programs and projects to achieve strategic goals with a customer-centric focus.
The role involves regular interactions with various groups, such as Distribution Engineering, Vegetation Management, Electric Operations, and Regulatory teams, making it highly cross-functional. The Senior Engineer is expected to become a subject matter expert and will have ample opportunities for both internal and external presentations.
**Essential Functions:**
- Develop analytics tools for resilience and reliability planning
- Stay updated on industry trends and assess their applicability to Eversource's goals
- Drive regulatory changes to support implementation
- Identify synergies and efficiencies within and outside the group
- Support data collection, storage, and management efforts
- Contribute to Distribution Asset Management
- Coordinate with vendors, partners, and entities for technology development
- Procure services and technology as needed
- Participate in emergency restoration efforts
- Present internally and externally at professional organizations
**Technical Knowledge, Skills, Education, Licenses, Certifications:**
- Strong knowledge of electric distribution systems and planning requirements
- Experience with distribution power flow models, Synergi familiarity preferred
- Understanding of risk-based models and probabilistic analysis
- Thorough knowledge of distribution reliability and resiliency technologies
- Ability to analyze complex problems and achieve desired results
- Skill in alignment of company-wide planning strategy with utility goals
- Proficiency in Python coding, experience with automation and simulations
- Familiarity with regulatory environment and customer-first work ethic
- Intermediate Excel skills, VBA proficiency, Power BI experience a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant field required
- Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Distribution Engineering or Planning in a utility environment or related area
**Working Conditions:**
- Availability for emergency restoration work
- Travel between MA, CT, NH as needed
**Compensation and Benefits:**
- Competitive total rewards program
- Annual salary range: $117,400.00 to $130,440.00
