ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our dynamic team at 3Degrees and become a pivotal force in the fight against climate change as a Carbon and Renewable Energy Analyst. In this role, you'll spearhead analytical insights impacting our Trading desk, influencing organizations worldwide towards decarbonization. As part of our Research and Analysis team within Environmental Markets (EM), you'll conduct market analysis, develop supply and demand models, track portfolio trends, and become a strategic thought partner to the head of Carbon Trading. You'll play a crucial role in shaping trading strategies, visualizing market data, and staying ahead of legislative changes. This role will accelerate the growth of environmental markets and make a tangible difference on a global scale. This is a full-time role reporting to the Director of Research and Analysis (EM).

This position is open to candidates preferably based within a commutable distance of our San Francisco, CA office with a flexible hybrid working environment. Exceptional candidates based outside of San Francisco, CA may also be considered with a preference for candidates based in or willing to relocate to Houston, TX. In addition, you agree to travel periodically to 3Degrees' offices for training or team collaboration and to conferences and customers as required. Frequency and cadence are team-dependent but on average are 1-6 times annually.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Carbon and Renewable Energy Analyst, you are an integral member of the Research and Analysis team. In this role, you will bring your subject matter expertise in market analysis and provide analytical insight to support our Carbon Trading desk. Bringing your prior experience in commodity markets and possessing an excellent understanding of market dynamics and supply and demand fundamentals gives you the leverage to succeed in the primary responsibilities of this position which include:

  • Conduct in-depth market analysis, develop supply-demand models, and track portfolio trends for the Carbon Trading desk.
  • Leverage expertise in statistics, financial modeling, and programming (Excel, Tableau, Python) to navigate and thrive in carbon markets.
  • Collaborate with traders, sales, and regulatory affairs to make data-driven trading recommendations.
  • Develop dashboards and reports that support trading activity.
  • Assist with research on legislative and policy changes impacting carbon markets.
  • Craft comprehensive supply-demand forecast models to support business strategy.
  • Liaise with the sales team to translate market insights into actionable tools.
  • Provide ad hoc analyses to ensure smooth operation of the carbon trading business.
  • Integrate new SQL and R logic in partnership with business units.
  • Maintain up-to-date portfolio with reports and tools from other portfolios.
  • Leverage and interpret third-party market fundamental models.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses to ensure the optimization of the carbon markets team.

ABOUT YOU

You are sharp quantitatively and have a passion for carbon and renewables. You excel at analyzing complex carbon market data and crafting insightful models. Your expertise in statistics and financial modeling positions you to positively impact our compliance carbon trading efforts. You exhibit ardor for commodity markets sustainability and a commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and possess the following:

  • 3 years or more of professional experience developing statistical tools and financial fundamentals models, ideally in the compliance carbon energy markets in North America and Europe.
  • Knowledge of North American or European carbon renewable energy markets preferred.
  • Deep understanding of markets and the ability to analyze complex carbon trading data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment balancing competing demands toward mutual goals.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate information succinctly to other team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously remain composed under pressure.
  • Strong independent learning skills coupled with a successful track record of self-driven analytical investigations.
  • Self-motivated with a genuine desire to accelerate the growth of environmental markets domestically and internationally.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL, and Tableau required working knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., Python, Pandas, VBA, R).
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of professional experience and education.

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS

**Within 30 days:**

  • Demonstrate a firm understanding of carbon market structures including compliance carbon markets in North America, Europe, and ROW.
  • Exhibit comprehension of 3Degrees overall portfolio position within the carbon markets.
  • Provide initial insights into the key drivers influencing carbon market strategies.

**Within 90 days:**

  • Take ownership of routine reporting tools used by the Carbon Markets team.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing reporting tools to support portfolio management decisions.
  • Showcase the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights for the trading team.

**Within 6 months:**

  • Become the primary source of market information within the Carbon Markets portfolio.
  • Generate innovative analysis ideas and proactively provide intelligence to the trading team based on market trends and insights.
  • Develop a reputation for delivering high-quality analysis that informs strategic decisions and contributes to portfolio optimization.

**Within 1 year:**

  • Showcase a track record of value-added contributions to the growth of environmental markets domestically and internationally.
  • Provide evidence of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Regulatory Affairs, Sales, other EM analysts, and key stakeholders to enhance market insights and optimize trading strategies.
  • Demonstrate leadership in driving initiatives that align with 3Degrees' mission to combat climate change and support decarbonization goals for businesses worldwide.

COMPENSATION

**Compensation:** The minimum and maximum salary for this position is $90,000.00 to $117,000.00 in the US.

**Benefits:** This position is eligible for a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, flexible paid time off, and more.

**Supplemental Pay:** This position is eligible for discretionary bonus programs including the company's profit-sharing program and an annual performance bonus.
