Senior Engineer Electrical Planning and Design

National Grid is hiring a **Senior Engineer** in Syracuse, NY to perform Transmission Planning functions within the Transmission Planning group responsible for New York. If you are a candidate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school and have a minimum of 4 to 6 years of related experience and credentials, consider applying for this position.

Job Purpose

• Establish transmission development expansion plans for the safe and effective management of transmission assets in New York.
• Conduct analytical studies for system expansion and generation-load interconnections.
• Perform thermal capability analysis for transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and arresters.
• Conduct computer modeling for power flow and stability studies.
• Document study findings, prepare recommendations, and present to executives.

Key Accountabilities

• Perform system studies considering reliability, production costs, and operating flexibility.
• Support need cases during hearings and implement policies and procedures.
• Participate in the NYISO Interconnection process and fulfill project manager roles.
• Resolve technical issues, support Control Center outage sequences, and ensure safe shutdown of facilities when needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• Master’s Degree in Electrical Power Systems preferred.
• Minimum of 4 to 6 years of related experience.
• Professional Engineering registration preferred.
• Experience with power flow and short circuit analysis.
• Proficiency in MSOffice applications.
• Strong work ethic, customer focus, teamwork, and flexibility.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects efficiently.
• Familiarity with transmission planning standards and NERC criteria.
• Experience with RTO planning processes and power systems knowledge preferred.
