About the Role

The ESO is leading the transformation to a fully decarbonised electricity system by 2035. Innovation plays a crucial role in meeting the challenges of transitioning to a zero-carbon future. As the Innovation Contract Lead, you will coordinate efforts to establish suitable innovation agreements with partners, working closely with procurement and legal teams. This role involves negotiating contracts with innovation partners to ensure intellectual property security and liability protections are upheld. You will work on innovation projects with academic and industry partners to enhance the effectiveness of the electricity transmission system in the future.

About Us

Our mission is to support the decarbonisation of Great Britain's energy network, ensuring the delivery of reliable, affordable, and green electricity for consumers. In Summer of 2024, the ESO will transition to become the National Energy System Operator (NESO), planning GB's electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system independently.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead multiple innovation contracts concurrently
• Support procurement and legal teams in contract negotiations
• Negotiate key terms such as intellectual property security and liabilities with partners
• Develop strong relationships with stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with Innovation Governance policies
• Provide insights for innovation agreement templates based on past agreements
