This position is expected to pay between $65,000 to $80,000 depending on education & experience. Join the Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) team and use your skills to make a substantial difference in watershed practices across the nation. We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a strong technical foundation, excellent communication skills, and 5 to 8 years of related experience. This position will include opportunities to work on a wide variety of CWP projects in a fast-paced environment that requires individuals that can work efficiently, produce high quality deliverables on-time and on-budget, and have excellent communication skills. This is a mostly remote position; however, the candidate should live in proximity to the CWP office due to the intermittent need for field work in this area and occasional travel to the office and may be asked to come into the office as needed to facilitate communication and efficient work progress. Some example tasks include:

  • Creating, maintaining, and managing largescale GIS datasets including but not limited to stormwater infrastructure, best management practices (BMPs)/stormwater control measures (SCMs), potential retrofit locations, etc.
  • Conducting GIS analysis of those datasets and creating ArcGIS Online (AGOL) tools and products
  • Georeferencing and digitizing data from plans and imagery
  • Collecting data in the field with GPS using apps such as Field Maps
  • Developing Survey123 forms and templates
  • Building workflows through Workforce
  • Lidar topographic differencing
  • Conducting site assessments for water quality improvements and stormwater retrofits
  • Working with local governments in developing and implementing Stormwater Management Programs
  • Conducting literature reviews and research on stormwater and watershed questions and writing
  • Teaching your skills to others at conferences, presentations, and workshops

The successful applicant will have proficient GIS skills but also the ability and desire to perform non-GIS stormwater/water quality work as needed which may including literature reviews, report and program writing, stormwater BMP inspections, and stormwater retrofit assessments.

We are looking for both full-time and part-time permanent positions. These positions are work at home position with periodic work from Maryland or other locations throughout the country.

Minimum bachelor’s in GIS, geography, environmental science or related field. Strong writing and speaking skills essential, with demonstrated ability to translate complex engineering and science concepts into clear and understandable terms. Additional desirable skills and experience include:

  • Expertise with CAD and GIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online)
  • Ability to innovate and problem solve new GIS solutions
  • Use of Python and other programming languages to customize web apps and automate processes
  • Knowledge of stormwater regulations and requirements (both urban and agricultural)
  • Experience working with local or state governments
  • Experience in Stormwater BMP/Green Stormwater Infrastructure design/conceptual planning
  • Experience in NPDES MS4 permitting and program development
  • Experience with facilitation of stakeholder input and skilled in communicating to a variety of different audiences, such as elected officials, boards, technical staff and residents
  • Experience in project management

Experience in project and grant management and ArcGIS Enterprise is a plus. This position is primarily virtual but requires field work and travel throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other parts of the country for projects as needed. Actual travel is expected to be less than 20% per year.
