EMEA Financial Shared Services Associate - GL Operations
Location: Madrid, Spain
Status: Exempt (salaried)
Department: EMEA Finance/Accounting
Position Summary
The EMEA Associate GL Operations is a critical member of the EMEA FSS Team. This role will help build the team from the ground up, create strong processes and will work across geographies. The ideal candidate will have experience in a multicultural finance team as well as accounting operations. This role provides support for Accounting transactions and is responsible for making sure the books and records of several legal entities are correctly kept. The ideal candidate should exhibit exceptional customer service skills, a positive attitude and a strong attention for detail.
The Associate GL Operations will interface on a regular basis with other departments including but not limited to Operational Finance, Corporate Controllership, and Purchasing. The successful candidate is a service-oriented person who enjoys high volume transactional responsibilities and takes pride in the accuracy and thoroughness of their work. The Associate GL Operations will be responsible for collaborating professionally with internal and external business stakeholders.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively on ERP implementation (SAP S/4 Hana)
- Create effective and SOX compliant accounting processes
- Run monthly and quarterly close processes
- Manage the preparation of several balance sheet reconciliations as well as the related journal entries
- Ensure compliance with all corporate and country-specific policies and procedures
- Drive process standardization, automation, and continuous process improvement to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
- Ability to multitask a high-volume environment
- Maintain a strong internal control environment compliant with SOX
- Build and maintain effective cross-functional relationships within the organization; engage with cross-functional partners proactively in completion of job responsibilities
- Support ongoing process improvement projects
- Represent Plug in a professional manner and in all interactions
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or other relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 10 (five) years of experience in general accounting processes including exposure to IFRS/USGAAP
- Experience with a large international firm highly preferred
- Ability to approach all work activities with a customer service focus
- Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Uncompromising dedication to quality
- Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
- Fluent English, other European languages are a plus
- Must be driven and self-motivated
- Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week
