Jacobs is seeking an entry-level scientist or engineer to join our team in support of our Research Laboratory Support (RLS) contract with the U.S. EPA located in Research Triangle Park, NC. This early career professional will have the opportunity to continually learn and develop new skill sets as research objectives change. The ideal candidate enjoys teamwork and working in a flexible environment.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Performing duties as assigned in conjunction with project leaders.
  • Contributing to a variety of research tasks.
  • Examples include operation and evaluation of air quality measurement technologies in laboratory and field environments, design and test of novel aerosol sampling equipment, and more.
  • Helping process large data sets using available software packages including R, Python, and Excel.
  • Originating and/or revising standard operating procedures, quality assurance plans, and work plans as related to research tasks.
  • Reviewing data to ensure compliance with project data quality goals and to identify areas for improvement in the quality system.
  • Documenting activities and recording observations in record books in accordance with quality assurance project plans.
  • Maintaining records of measurement results and reporting in accordance with Jacobs and EPA records management protocols.
  • Performing laboratory work in accordance with established safety and quality assurance protocols.

Here's what you'll need:

  • **Years of experience:** 0-1 year
  • **Education:** B.S. degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, Biological, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with using hand tools.
  • Laboratory experience through coursework, internship, and/or prior work experience.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Proficient with basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency with a programming language (e.g., Python and/or R).

Essential Functions:

**Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position:**

  • **Lifting:** 35 lbs.
  • **Special clothing/equipment:** Industrial PPE, safety glasses, protective shoes, lab coats, dust masks.
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory environment.

**Description of Work Environment:** Inside/Outside Combination. Laboratory or Indoor setting with some field work involved.

**Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks:** Office equipment, machines, hand tools, and laboratory equipment.

**Criticality of Attendance:** Regular days with the necessity for regular attendance and punctuality.

**Shift:** 1st shift core hours 9:00AM-3:00PM.
