BayWa r.e Wind, LLC is our North American Wind subsidiary. We are responsible for the development, construction, and operation of wind farms in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Purpose:

BayWa r.e. Wind, LLC is seeking a IPP Ecologist to join our team.

The IPP Ecologist will be required to oversee and manage ongoing permit compliance for BayWa r.e.’s operational utility-scale renewable energy projects across the United States.

Successful candidates will have a strong technical background in ecology, have a strong project management mindset and, experience evaluating and understanding environmental impacts of utility-scale energy projects.

Responsibilities we will trust you with:

Success in this role involves:

  • Permit Compliance Management
  • Developing, communicating, and managing project permitting compliance, schedules and budgets for existing permitting compliance requirements with Ecologists, Asset Managers, and other colleagues.
  • Maintaining compliance within each operational asset's permitting compliance matrix and managing the closeout of permitting conditions.
  • Working with Asset Management and Finance teams to ensure adequate permitting compliance.
  • Managing and overseeing external project environmental and permitting related consultants with scope of work creation, requests for proposal issuance, review and assessment, bid selection, and purchase order creation.
  • Leading regular meeting and discussions with various stakeholders such as federal, state, and local authorities as well as internal management.
  • Owning, managing, and optimizing permit compliance budgets.
  • Managing the drafting, reviewing, and commenting process through finalization of required reports and other documents. This includes internally generated BayWa r.e. materials, as well as externally generated studies and reports geared towards addressing permitting concerns.
  • Drafting ecological reports as required.
  • Overseeing work performed by Land Managers to ensure all required tasks are completed to ensure ongoing permit compliance.
  • Identifying and implementing solutions to drive down compliance related costs.
  • Assisting the Asset Management team with ecological topics and coordinating work between third party contractors.
  • Representing BayWa r.e. and/or its projects at permitting compliance related governmental and community meetings.
  • Ideally located in Santa Barbara County, CA and will require travel to project sites and to BayWa r.e. offices in Irvine, CA and/or Carlsbad, CA, or other locations as applicable.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise:

The ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Minimum 3-6+ years of experience in environmental/regulatory compliance and/or ecology required.
  • Previous experience with renewable energy projects or other (energy) infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Experience working with environmental, regulatory and land use agencies such as: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), and/or state agencies, and local county and city planning departments.
  • Experience writing and reviewing environmental reports required.
  • Strong public speaking skills and demonstrated experience with public meetings and testifying as a subject matter expert. Must be comfortable discussing complex topics in front of larger audiences.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Vendor and contract management experience, including scope of work preparation, bid solicitation, and bid comparison analysis.
  • Understanding of financial aspects and financial planning required to create and monitor budgets.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Natural Resources, Planning, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, or a related field.

  • Total compensation package dependent upon a number of factors, including candidate’s professional experience, candidate’s skills, position’s seniority level, department’s hiring budget, and position’s location.
  • The pay range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000.
  • Bonus potential based on individual and company performance.
