Your role

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the month-end and financial accounting processes within the team and providing technical accounting advice to the business. It will be responsible for preparing the general purpose annual report, direct and indirect tax obligations and as required, provide peer support across the Finance team. This role supports continuous improvement through creating process consistency and efficiency, and maintenance of process and procedures documentation.

This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.

What you will do:

Statutory Reporting

• Prepare general purpose annual financial statements for the SEC Victoria Pty Ltd Group and its relevant subsidiaries that also comply with the Victorian Statement Government’s Financial Management Act 1994.
• Liaise with the external auditor (Victorian Auditor General’s Office) to ensure audit requirements are practical, clear and achievable.

Accounting

• Provide commercially focused, technical accounting advice across the business, including support on business development activities.
• Maintain accounting policies, as required, that provide clear guidance on the accounting treatment and provide practical guidance for implementation.
• Preparation of documents for the Audit and Risk Committee and Board of Directors.
• Preparation of relevant returns for indirect / employment / state taxation including supporting analysis when necessary

Experiences and Skills:

Must Have:

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

• Degree qualified in Commerce, Business or related field
• CA or CPA
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint experience
• Experience working with accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics
• A high level of attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
• Demonstrated problem solving skills.

Highly Desirable:

• An understanding of the Victorian Government Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Act 1994 is beneficial but not essential.
• Direct and indirect tax compliance experience
