Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrode Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future at Northvolt. Joining Northvolt means being part of a dynamic team at the forefront of the battery industry revolution. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the development of next-generation products. Our inclusive and collaborative culture fosters innovation and creativity, while our commitment to sustainability drives our mission forward.

In this role, you will lead the optimization of calendaring processes to enhance electrode properties on high-speed and high-throughput equipment. Utilize expertise in roll-to-roll processes and mechanical forces related to calendaring to drive efficiency and stability across production lines. Characterize and optimize calendaring processes, contribute to technology decisions, and ensure maximum electrical contact and adhesion without damaging active components.

Currently, the team consists of 5 subject matter experts experienced in specific processes. We aim to expand the team to at least 10 engineers. Our team's overarching objective is to drive innovation and advancement within the battery industry. This includes introducing new technologies and next-generation products, leading the scale-up process from pilot line to mass production, and resolving bottlenecks by integrating new technologies into existing production lines. We prioritize understanding the fundamental structure-property relationship of the electrode and conduct trials to enhance our understanding and share knowledge with fellow electrode engineers.

**Key responsibilities** include but are not limited to:

  • Lead efforts to refine and optimize the calendaring process, enhancing electrode properties on high-speed and high-throughput equipment to meet stringent quality standards.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping technology decisions to boost efficiency and stability across production lines while also contributing insights for the development of innovative new products.
  • Leverage extensive experience in roll-to-roll processes, including calendaring, slitting, or notching, to streamline operations and maximize productivity.
  • Employ a deep understanding of mechanical forces related to calendaring to optimize processes, ensuring optimal electrical contact and adhesion to current collectors while safeguarding against damage to active components.

As we work towards building a mass production facility, we require individuals with deep industrial and theoretical knowledge of the electrode process. The ideal candidate will contribute by conducting trials and research to obtain and implement crucial learnings. Given the simultaneous nature of this work alongside production, engineers must be capable of independently solving complex problems while maintaining a relative distance from direct production involvement. Contribution stems from applying first principles to identify root causes of issues and leveraging experience and knowledge to propose unconventional solutions.

Northvolt is an equal opportunity employer. We're a diverse group of individuals united by a common mission who recognize that while our actions as individuals have a role to play in driving Northvolt towards its goals, we always seek to move forward as a team. We offer you an open and welcoming atmosphere where we win as a team and fail as a team. Northvolt is growing at the speed of light, and we are a strong believer in internal career development. For us, it's important to look at your skills and potential - please refrain from including your picture and age with your application to help us with this.

**Apply with CV in English or your complete LinkedIn profile. Full-time employment, fixed salary.**

*Please note that any applications submitted via email or direct messaging will not be considered.*
