Job Description

Cemvita was founded in 2017 and has developed BioSolutions for the conversion of carbon waste (including carbon dioxide) into feedstocks for sustainable aviation fuel, specialty chemicals, and protein for animal feed. The OpportunityThe VP of Industrial Biotechnology is responsible for overseeing Cemvita’s Synbio Team, based in Houston. The successful candidate will help Cemvita convert carbon dioxide into valuable products through cutting-edge technology. As the VP of Industrial Biotechnology, the successful candidate will lead our talented team of scientists in pioneering solutions that have the potential to reshape industries and make a positive impact on our planet.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Map the Biomanufacturing path from R&D to product, go to market and commercialization.

  • Lead the SynBio team, including Bioinformatics, strain development strategy and fermentation.
  • Apply high throughput screening technologies and scale up strategy.
  • Manage existing collaborations, identify and create new commercial and scientific collaborations/ partnerships (including academic institution and national labs).
  • Contribution in developing short and long term SynBio strategies during Cemvita’s growth.
  • Client/ investors facing, as needed.

**SKILLS:**Technical Leadership: 50%

Management skills: 20%

Soft skills for working in a collaborative environment including close collaboration with BD team 15%

Taking R&D to product to market, and scale up strategies 15%

QUALIFICATIONS:* 7+ years of leadership or team management experience in Biotech/ SynBio industry

  • PhD or equivalent in any of the following majors including, Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Systems Biology, Biotech and Sustainability, work experience on Biological CO2 utilization platforms is a plus
  • Working experience on strain development, Biomanufacturing
  • Genetic engineering and high yield recombinant protein production.
  • Experience on scale up production (e.g. biomanufacturing or fermentation products)
  • Experience representing finished work to clients, proposal writing, project management
  • Prior startup experience.
  • Multidisciplinary background is preferred.
