Team Background

Our team owns the code authoring experience at Cruise, from how users check out and edit code to how they push and review code. This consists of a combination of self-hosted vendor tools, such as Sourcegraph, Github, etc., as well as various in-house built tools that streamline access to and development on secure ephemeral cloud environments.

Our tools ensure that users always have access to the code, hardware, and secure environments they need to do their work, enabling engineers to spend more time on their expertise and less time on access challenges.

Mission

To improve the developer productivity of engineers at Cruise through tools and services that streamline and automate their development workflows.

Role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer with an extensive engineering background and experience using a variety of developer tools and technologies. As a leader on this team, we are seeking someone who cares deeply about the technical development of other engineers and can balance the needs of the business, users, and engineer growth effectively.

What You'll be Doing

  • Identify engineering pain points and propose reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies through proof of concepts.
  • Drive software engineering best practices and influence the team's engineering culture.
  • Mentor and grow engineers on the team.
  • Lead and deliver impact both individually and through the team.

What You Must Have

  • 7 years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
  • Experience writing Go or a desire to learn.
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
  • Ability to lead and influence others internally and externally.
  • Passion for mentoring and growing junior developers.
  • Passion for self-driving technology and its impact on the world.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience owning or contributing to Open Source projects.

The salary range for this position is $208,300 - $245,000. Compensation may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional offerings may include bonuses, long-term incentives, and benefits, subject to change.
