Sales Applications Engineer

The Smardt family is growing, and we are looking to add an Application Engineer to our Data Center team.

This position is remote and can be based across the US and/or Canada in major metropolitan cities, some travel required.

Reporting to the Director - Data Center Team, the Applications Engineer is responsible for the Design/Selection of Chiller solutions for Data Center applications, commercial/technical development of RFP proposals, coordination w/ Engineering and Production departments in the development of Submittals, including production coordination during the unit production build, coordination and collaboration with the Test Rig Team regarding all aspects of AHRI certified chiller testing, including pretest coordination, test script development, scheduling, FWT operation and post review and report development, interface in customer presentations both in person and virtually, close interaction with Data Center Team members in all aspects of providing technical support including interface w/ DC clients, Design Engineers, Equipment Vendors, and various internal and external Smardt Teams on a daily/weekly basis.

This is an extremely exciting position, with/ high visibility and is a central part of a very close, fast paced and execution oriented team.

What will your days look like as an application engineer at Smardt?

• Preparing detailed, high-quality chiller Selection, Drawings and Proposal materials, ensuring clarity in the specification requirements to ensure the manufacture of state of the art chiller solutions in accordance with Product Development plans
• Working with the design team to prepare innovative design ideas and ensure on-time delivery of new and improved product developments
• Liaising with suppliers to ensure clarity in requirements and collaboratively manage any risk to the on-time delivery of Product development plans
• Generating technical documentation supporting the marketing and sales of Product
• Collaborating on work instructions, maintenance manuals, P&ID diagrams, instructions for use, Factory Acceptance Test templates and other associated engineering documentation
• Preparing/maintaining Bills of Material (BOM) for new and existing Product
• Carrying out engineering calculations and simulations to ensure compliant component selection and specification.
• Maintaining the integrity of design assets through PDM product data management system.
• Test Rig coordination in developing pre-test scope, script and schedule w/ the Test Rig Manager and Analyzing data, reviewing test reports, and providing clear conclusions and product solutions.
• RCA/8D coordination and collaboration w/ Global Service, Data Center and QA/QC Teams in the development RCA reports including the customer presentation of Report/data.
• Coordinating and collaborating on technical initiatives w/ the DC PE Team on various items as unit's transition from factory to site regarding start up and/or CX activities.
• Other duties as required.

What are we looking for in an Application Engineer?

• A minimum of bachelor’s degree is required in Mechanical or related Engineering
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in product design
• Experience with chillers or refrigeration systems is required
• Experience with 3D modelling software, Autodesk Inventor or solid works is an asset.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint) is required
• Familiarity with ASHRAE/ANSI/ASME codes and design requirements is an asset
• Familiarity with industrial controls systems is advantageous
• Familiarity with electrical systems pump applications and control platforms is advantageous
