**Position Detail** We are looking for an experienced Recreation Operations Assistant to join our Recreation Programming team at our Northfield, MA location. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Recreation and Programming, the Recreation and Operations Assistant performs a variety of technical, clerical, and maintenance duties associated with the operation of the Northfield Mountain Environmental and Recreation Center. Our ideal candidate possesses experience, passion, and energy to be a driving force in FirstLight's continued evolution to accelerate the decarbonization of the electric grid to meet the clean energy needs of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Provide seasonal program and activity support including direct customer interaction, reservations, and sales
  • Prepare, verify, and maintain records, procedures, revenue reports, and instructions related to the planning, operation, and maintenance of the center
  • Assist regular staff and seasonal personnel with recreation and environmental programs
  • Assist with special event activities including planning and logistical support
  • Perform maintenance activities associated with the operation of the facilities
  • Coordinate repair, maintenance, and inspection activities with applicable departments
  • Write and distribute feature stories and press releases for programs and activities, and design and write bi-monthly newsletters
  • Review and provide updated information for recreation website
  • Manage reservation lists and customer database
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

**Job Qualifications**

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree is preferred.
  • 2 years of experience working in the recreation field with an emphasis on program development and presentation
  • Thorough knowledge of recreational activities such as skiing, orienteering, biking, snowshoeing, running, and canoeing
  • Basic knowledge of hydroelectric operations is a plus
  • Must be a strong multitasker with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong public speaking and customer relations skills required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must have certification in American Red Cross Emergency Response and CPR or greater, or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Must be familiar with and have the mechanical knowledge and skill to maintain and repair recreation program equipment
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and holidays
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be available to work overtime or on short notice as required

**Physical Requirements**

  • Will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions such as rain and heat
  • Ability to be physically mobile and frequently stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Must be able to walk up and down flights of stairs and carry up to 40 lbs
