**About Essential:** Essential is a new bioscience organization creating breakthrough solutions to tackle malnutrition and transform food systems. Leveraging advances in fermentation, Essential converts agricultural byproducts into affordable, accessible, and climate-resilient proteins to address malnutrition. The goal is to catalyze a new model of climate-resilient protein production in Sub-Saharan Africa and build a bioscience R&D engine in East Africa.

**Responsibilities:**

• Fermentation process development
• Optimize fungal fermentation processes
• Review and provide feedback on process improvements
• Analyze and improve productivity and product yield
• Develop quality control measures
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Conduct analytical testing of fermentation samples
• Provide technical support for new product development

**Experience and Skills:**

• PhD in Microbiology, Bioprocess Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Work experience in fungal fermentation technology or protein production
• Strong technical knowledge in microbial/fungal metabolism
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Passion for building impactful organizations in East Africa
