Job Title: Electrical Mechanical Engineer Substations

About the Role

As an Electrical Mechanical Engineer Substations, you will be required to work within a 1.5-hour commute of our Brimsdown substation in Enfield. You will join our London Northeast team covering 7 substations spanning Enfield, Tottenham, Hackney, Islington, Redbridge, and Broxbourne. Your journey will start by gaining site experience and completing core training, progressing with further classroom-based and on-site training, occasionally requiring short travel away from home. Upon completing the training period, you will support the standby rota and emergency call-out requirements across your team, with optional travel to support wider operational zones. The role involves leading and delivering high-voltage electricity substation projects, maintenance, fault investigation, and rectification in a commercially focused manner while supervising team members. Ensure safe work systems, share expertise, and oversee maintenance, refurbishment, or replacement works on various plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Operations Manager and team members on projects
  • Manage project delivery performance
  • Undertake standby and emergency call-out duties as required
  • Ensure safe work systems are implemented
  • Monitor contracts for customers and work by contractors
  • Conduct site delivery activities under CDM Regs and National Grid's Safety Rules
  • Communicate with Project Leader Line Manager for program success
  • Perform plant equipment duties to defined standards
  • Lead maintenance, fault investigation, repair, and safety implementation
  • Supervise internal and external staff for efficiency and safety
  • Assist with commissioning activities

About You

Are you a natural leader with strong communication, organization, and planning skills? If so, our Electrical Mechanical Engineer Substations role may be for you.

  • **Essential Requirements:**

  • Full driving license valid in the UK

  • Engineering Level 3 qualification or equivalent apprenticeship

  • Significant electrical or mechanical engineering experience in an industrial setting

  • Safety rules and fault-finding experience

  • **Desirable Skills:**

  • NEBOSH general certificate

  • Experience in substation plant, HV cable systems, or Protection Control

  • Emergency response and project delivery experience
