Ballard's Product Engineering team is seeking a Controls System Engineer to join the Controls Engineering team. Successful candidates will excel in the following areas:

• Advanced controls system development
• Embedded software development
• Controls software design and implementation
• Setting and maintaining the SW implementation and testing toolchains
• Documenting detailed requirements, design specifications, and test reports

The ideal candidate will work independently and collaboratively with the existing engineering team, focusing on continuous improvements at personal and technical levels. Responsibilities include:

• Direct involvement in the controls system and software development life cycle
• Developing controls and software requirements for fuel cell systems using advanced techniques
• Designing algorithms for signal processing, control strategies, communication protocols, and fault diagnostics reporting
• Verifying and validating software through simulations and testing
• Managing software version control and implementing CI/CD testing methodology
• Leading technology innovation and continuous improvement in system controls engineering

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, EE, computer engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 16 months of experience in embedded software development
• Programming skills in C/C++, Matlab, Simulink, and scripting languages
• Experience with formal software version control, Git, SVN, and release configuration management
• In-depth understanding of signal processing, advanced control algorithms, and debugging control systems

Desired Traits:

• Engineering degree from an accredited Electrical/Electronics or Computer Engineering program
• Experience with Agile development process
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic instrumentation
• Experience with power device interfaces, software release management, and CI/CD tools
• Familiarity with CAN and communication protocols such as J1939, CANopen
