Communications Associate - Energy

About the Job

Earthworks is hiring a Communications Associate to join our dynamic and growing team. This position will focus on providing communications support with owned and earned media for our Energy portfolio, specifically in the areas of corporate accountability and the organization's Energy Field investigations work. Collaborating effectively with staff and partners in a coalition is essential for this role.

An ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience in strategic or advocacy communications. The position reports to the Senior Communications Manager for Energy within the Communications Department.

Core Responsibilities

  • Distill complex issues into more broadly consumable content
  • Develop and execute communications plans for major program initiatives
  • Identify and maintain relationships with key reporters, outlets, and media allies
  • Ensure alignment of website and EARTHblog materials with organizational priorities
  • Work with program staff to develop social media content and select energy program articles for digital organizers
  • Center values of equity and justice, particularly regarding frontline groups and marginalized communities

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support Corporate Accountability and Energy Field Team portfolios
  • Assist in narrative-changing stories consistent with Earthworks energy team's strategies
  • Engage in rapid response to real-world events and news stories
  • Amplify Energy Field optical gas images (OGI) for impactful communication outputs
  • Develop accessible content for community education and media opportunities

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional media and communications experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Multicultural competence and commitment to working with diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with social and digital media communications

Location, Travel, and COVID-19

This position is remote in the United States with potential travel requirements. Earthworks prioritizes employee health and safety amid COVID-19.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $66,000 - $70,000 annually, dependent on experience. Full-time staff receive a competitive benefits package.

Bargaining Unit Status

Earthworks is a union workplace, and this position is included in the bargaining unit.
