About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Writer on its Communications team. This person will drive the successful execution of day-to-day and long-term writing projects and ensure that written materials within the department and across the organization are streamlined.
The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of exceptional writing skills, project management and a passion for advancing our mission to combat climate change.
This position reports to the Managing Director of Communications.### Primary Responsibilities

  • Draft communications materials including press releases, polling memos, fact sheets and other desired written content quickly and on tight deadlines.
  • Review and edit all outbound communications materials for content, spelling, style, format and grammar.
  • Ensure that content is inclusive and accessible for diverse audiences, including adherence to best practices for cultural competency and accessibility.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar for outbound communications materials and coordinate with other teams across Climate Power.
  • Coordinate with Climate Power’s research team to perform research and fact-checking.
  • Provide guidance to other staff members on writing conventions and style.
  • Work with the Managing Director of Communications and the full team to write and edit communications materials.

Essential Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant prior work experience in communications and editing.

  • 2 years of people and/or project management experience; demonstrated success in leading departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.

  • Must be able to work independently, but also collaboratively with diverse groups of people, communities, and partners.

  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities.

  • Adept at long-form and short-form writing.

  • Excellent grasp of grammar and spelling.

  • Proven research and fact-checking skills.

  • Proactive and energetic disposition.

  • A keen eye for detail and quality writing.

  • Organized and meticulous about their work.

  • Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in DC. This position can be located anywhere in the U.S., but must be able to work Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates. Our Hiring Timeline and Process

    An ideal start date would be before or by May 30, 2024.
    Our interview process generally involves 3 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meets or Zoom. Successful candidates that move forward in the hiring process, may be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive compensation) and will undergo a vetting process, including reference and background check to ensure cultural and political alignment.
