**Job Description** American Water is seeking a Water Quality Environmental Compliance Specialist to assist with water sampling for compliance in Alton, Belleville, or Jerseyville, Illinois. Responsibilities include compliance sample collection, customer communication, lead and copper sampling, data entry, recordkeeping, and coordinating with laboratories for sample analysis. Key accountabilities include conducting compliance sampling, evaluating treatment processes, identifying issues, initiating actions to mitigate violations, and monitoring analyzers.

**Key Accountabilities**

• Conduct compliance sampling and analysis as required
• Evaluate treatment processes and recommend modifications
• Identify potential issues, initiate responsive actions
• Coordinate customer communications for sampling requirements
• Conduct special projects, prepare reports as needed
• Build relationships, solve laboratory issues with customers
• Monitor supplies and laboratory costs

**Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements**

• 2-4 years of experience in water, wastewater, or environmental compliance
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, laboratory techniques, QA/QC programs
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
• Understanding of federal and state environmental standards and regulations
• Experience in water/wastewater treatment, troubleshooting systems
• Bachelor's degree in physical, chemical, or environmental sciences preferred

**Travel Requirements** Local and regional travel within Illinois Central Division on a monthly basis per district.

**Work Environment** Laboratory, indoor/outdoor production, office environments. Must sit in a Central Division office location.
