About the role

This is the time for action. We need to move at pace and reform our energy system to deliver energy security, tackle climate change, and protect our people. To help deliver successful change, you will play a key role by contributing your significant planning and environmental experience to shape our vision and strategy for better outcomes. Working across policy, legislation, and process areas, you will drive strategic improvements to the environment for developing infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include identifying opportunities to simplify processes and deliver better outcomes for all stakeholders involved.

You will engage with internal and external stakeholders to lead and influence the successful implementation of policy changes. Additionally, you will provide operational support to ensure consistency and best practices while continuously refining processes for improvement. Your role will involve understanding emerging strategic energy plans, influencing senior stakeholders, and engaging with various government bodies.

National Grid offers hybrid working options, allowing for office and home-based work. Full-time, part-time, and flexible working arrangements are considered.

About You

We are looking for candidates with a planning and environmental background and detailed knowledge of UK planning and environmental assessment policies. Experience in working with national stakeholders, including government bodies, is essential. Influence in government decision-making organizations to update legislation and processes is highly valuable.

At National Grid, we are committed to diversity and inclusion. We encourage candidates who are excited about the role but may not meet every qualification to apply. Your experience and skills may still align with our business needs.

What you'll do

  • Utilize your knowledge of legislation, policies, and guidance to ensure project teams are informed of changes and implications.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders to create appropriate responses to external consultations.
  • Manage internal planning and consenting policies, ensuring consistency and success in implementation.
  • Think creatively about stakeholder engagement, land rights, and design to drive positive change for customers, communities, and the environment.

If you are passionate about driving change in the energy sector and contributing to a sustainable future, we encourage you to apply.
