More action is needed to reduce emissions and manage climate change. At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.

We are working together for renewable, affordable reliable energy for all Victorians.

Your role

As General Manager of Strategy and Performance at the SEC, you will be responsible for leading the strategy function to drive design and delivery of the SEC’s strategic plan. You will work closely with different business units to address strategic challenges and opportunities by bringing insight and implement process and rigor for high organisational performance.

This role reports into the Chief of Staff, Strategy and Performance, and can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell.

What you will do:

  • Provide expert advice on SEC’s strategic direction to the CEO, Executive team and business units.
  • Work alongside the Executive team and business unit leaders to translate SEC’s strategic plan to implementation as effectively as possible.
  • Develop and collaborate strong working relationships with all business units to support and facilitate activities that relate to the strategic plan.
  • Design and lead the delivery of SEC’s activities to support the development of the energy workforce within Victoria.
  • Provide thought leadership to identify options and opportunities as energy market condition change.

Who you are:

Must Have:

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

  • Significant experience in similar strategic roles, e.g., management consulting, or in-house strategy functions
  • Demonstrable experience in leading organisational delivery of strategic plans
  • Conceptual and analytical capability to problem solve in a methodical, accurate and timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience in written and oral communication of insights and recommendations across various stakeholders and levels
  • A track record of delivering outcomes in challenging and complex policy, regulatory and/or technical environments.
  • Ability to proactively navigate ambiguity and uncertainty and adapt to changing circumstances.

Highly Desirable:

Nice to have in addition to the Core capabilities and skills (desirable skills or experiences).

  • Deep understanding of the Australian energy markets, especially the NEM.
  • Experience in energy market analysis, including market and financial modelling to drive and effectively communicate specific/relevant/useful insights to inform decision making.

We will also play an important role in helping Victorian households to reduce their energy bills and emissions by offering simple and effective solutions to help them switch to electric.

The energy transformation will create thousands of jobs. The SEC will play a role in attracting and training our future renewable energy workforce, including through the SEC Centre of Training Excellence.
