OverviewThe EHS and Sustainability Manager for North West Europe leads the delivery of key environmental, health and employee safety performance across the BU’s MAKE, MOVE & SELL operations (with a focus on company owned operations).

In addition, the role will also set up the stewardship and reporting of Sustainability performance of the BU supply chain, ensure delivery across the agreed sector glidepath for water, GHG emissions and packaging performance and set up transformational projects which make big leaps forward in performance.

Responsibilities* Apply Global Control Standards in the processes under his/her accountability, following corporate and local policies as periodically updated and communicated, and ensure correct execution and documentation of controls

  • Owner of health, safety, environment policies for operations and advise Plant Management Teams (PMT) and ensure all legal requirements are met

  • Implementor of a ‘safety culture’, be the point of contact as subject matter specialist for all internal/external parties

  • Coordinator of annyal Healty, Safety, Environment related investments across operations

  • Coordinator of risk analysis. Initiates ideas and proposals; recommends in order to support in the conformity with the legal and GEHSMS.-standards. Also to ensure of clear interpretation and awareness of employers/employees responsibilities.

  • Manages, coaches and co-ordinates the implementation of GEHSMS of which calamity-plans, safe working practices, health initiatives, according to the legal and internal standards, in order to ensure clear interpretation of labor, safety and environmental aspects and responsibilities

  • Participates in technical Safety and Environmental project teams, to share information and to advice, in order to contribute to optimising uniform (internal) communication- and efficient and safe production methods and to HSE awareness in the plant, in conformity with the legal and GEHSMS standard

  • Fullfils GEHSMS Audits as a lead auditor across various plants in WER

  • Coaching of coworkers in all EHS matters, and organizes training and/or awareness sessions to increase the overall BU capability and knowledge transfer

  • Is well versed with local regulations and legislative requirements in the Netherlands as relates to environmental permits and safe operation

  • Conversant with ISO14001 & ISO 50001 environmental proceedings including waste sorting, use and storage of chemistry. Contribute to the Recon (Resource Conservation) program by developing systems to report system leaks (chemistry, compressed air, steam, water, juice, etc.).

  • Maintains contacts with all parties involved within (i.e. HSE Organisation WER) and outside the company (i.e. governmental authorities, external training companies, etc.) in order to realise above-mentioned responsibilities

  • Define the reporting mechanism for all BU Sustainability KPI’s to track performance against Sector glidepath

  • Determine PEP positive (PEP+) strategy and targets for MAKE and MOVE operations in partnership with Central Sustainability Office, following latest classifications e.g. of high water risk sites, emissions

  • Determine the PSP investment roadmap in partnership with the Program team to enable the BU to achieve its PEP+ targets

  • Identify and set up transformational sustainability initiatives like project Volt (decrabonisation of BoL) which help the BU move forward in paradigm leaps. These initiatives will play across all areas of PEP+ (water usage, emissions, plastic/packaging optimisation and human sustainability) and utilise experimental technologies (like AI, ML, novel procurement strategies etc.)

  • Work with PEP PPGA, environment and regulatory bodies, industry consortia and academic groups to secure partnerships as well as funding for experimental sustainability initiatives

  • Lead the execution of sustainability initiatives through dotted line leadership of the sustainability resources in the Program team

Qualifications* Background in Sustainabilty Programme management or willing to follow Sustainability leadership Programs to learn and adopt necessary knowledge

  • Relevant education / background in EHS discipline(s). Experience in managing health/safety/environment policies
  • Proven leadership/people and change management skills and supply chain experience (in supply chain for > 10 years)
  • Language: Dutch and English language written and spoken
  • Specific key skills: - Project management skills essential, - Proven ability in strategy/master plan development and deployment and good knowledge of end to end supply chain complexity and drivers of costs
  • High degree of creativity and autonomy to be able to scope out promising initiatives and build compelling business cases for the review of BU and sector decision makers
  • Needs to be a strong business partner and able to effectively communicate at all levels of the business
  • Agile - Demonstrates perspective and poise in the face of uncertainty and effectively gets things done
  • Able to lead cross functional teams and agendas and build winning teams through coaching and influencing. Able to operate in a matrix environment without direct reports
  • Strong presentation and communication skills. The ability to liaise confidently and assertively with all levels within the company essential
  • High level of personal drive, energy and resilience. A passion for results and a track record of delivering in a structured way essential
