Agricultural Data Scientist

  • **Location:** Washington DC, United States

  • **Program:** Food Land and Water Program (FLW) - Land Carbon Lab (LCL)
  • **Team:** Data Lab's Data Team, serving FLW's Supply Chains team
  • **Salary Range:** $96K - $110K USD

**About the Program:** WRI's Food Land and Water (FLW) program focuses on realizing a sustainable future for the world's food systems, freshwater, forests, and other natural ecosystems. The Land Carbon Lab (LCL) is WRI's premier hub for geospatial data analysis and monitoring of the world's land and ecosystems.

**Job Description:** This is a hybrid position, requiring 8 days a month in the office. The Agricultural Data Scientist will contribute to research, innovation, and implementation of new data analysis technologies that leverage artificial intelligence for crop field boundary detection and mapping.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  1. **Spatial Analysis with AI Tools for Agriculture Use Cases (65%):**
  • Create an open AI model for crop field boundary detection.
  • Evaluate data products for accuracy and completion.
  • Assist in crop type yield mapping and other mapping endeavors.
  1. **Program Development and Administration (10%):**
  • Contribute to concept notes, funding proposals, and donor reports.
  • Support development of workplans and internal systems.
  • Manage internal communications on project progress.
  1. **Writing and Engagement (25%):**
  • Contribute to written outputs such as publications and technical notes.
  • Assist in the documentation and standardization of code and data products.
  • Assist with engagement activities and capacity building.

**Requirements:**

  • **Education:** Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • **Experience:** Minimum 7 years of professional experience in machine learning and remote sensing.
  • **Skills:** Programming skills in Python, machine learning experience, cloud computing platforms, remote sensing GIS concepts, etc.
  • **Languages:** Fluency in English. Knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese is a plus.
